The fashion industry is one of the most polluting & wasteful industries in the world (2nd only to the oil industry). The average American wastes an average of 82 pounds of clothing per year! This comes out to 11 million tons of textile waste per year. 20% of all plastic produced is used in the textile industry. 90% of the cotton we use is genetically modified. Our skin is our biggest organ, so be conscious about chemicals and dyes.
What you can do to help:
-No poly bags
-Find brands who use sustainable fabrics
-Fabrics that are cut using scissors shed up to 31 times more microplastic fibers in the ocean than those cut with lasers
-Recycle! Please don't throw clothes in the trash. There are many sources for donating clothes that are no longer wearable
